Covid-related restrictions are finally easing, and many areas are returning to some semblance of normalcy. So, now Americans are eager to celebrate their holidays in full glory once again. And Halloween is first in line to kick off the beloved holiday season. As excitement for returning holidays mounts, Party City is gearing up for a huge sales year. As part of that preparation, they just announced news of a seasonal hiring spree.
You may recognize Party City as the place to go for all your celebratory needs throughout the year. They have a wide selection of decorations and party supplies for every event you can dream up. But Halloween is their time to shine. You can find nearly any costume you want at one of their 750 retail locations. But if you truly want to dress to impress, one of their 150 Halloween City pop-up locations is ready to equip you with all your costume needs.
With so many stores bracing for a level of Halloween excitement not seen since pre-pandemic days, Party City is preparing early. They plan to hire 20,000 seasonal employees nationwide before the big day. This number far surpasses last year, when they brought 17,000 seasonal employees onboard.
One of the reasons for the ramp-up is that the company is already selling a large number of home and yard decorations. The 3 top sellers at Party City so far this season include Yorrik, the 5-foot skeleton, a robot zombie raccoon, and a 7-foot-tall talking lava demon. And that 7-foot tall demon comes complete with a fog effect so you can thoroughly scare the neighborhood kids.
With schools just getting underway and fall not officially here yet, the run on Halloween decor is coming early this year. So, Party City wants to be ready for what they believe will be a busy holiday. According to Odette Welling, the vice president of merchandising, “There’s been a lot of pent-up demand, and people are so ready to celebrate.”
If you are a last-minute costume shopper, you may want to change your tactic this year. Some customers are already snatching up their favorite costumes, guaranteeing that they will be dressed well for Halloween. Party City leadership anticipates a run on movie-inspired costumes. Some of this year’s top hits include Top Gun, Jurassic World, and Hocus Pocus 2. So if your little one is just dying to represent their favorite character, consider shopping early.
Beyond the holiday fervor, the news of 20,000 positions opening with Party City is positive for job seekers. The pandemic caused some drastic shifts in the job market and had a definite impact on seasonal positions. The tide could potentially be turning, which will help those who typically seek seasonal work regain their footing again.
And there is more great news for potential applicants. Party City is not just hiring cashiers and sales/stock associates. Some locations also plan to hire team leaders and supervisors. Even better, the company expects to offer permanent positions to roughly 10-15% of the temporary hires at the close of the busy season.
