Smaller bites are becoming more and more common at fast food restaurants. Part of the reason is the affordability factor. But perhaps more important for restaurant owners is their ability to tap into a previously untouched market – the mid-day munchies. Adding smaller options to their menus allows some fast food locations to target a specific market segment. White Castle has been taking advantage of this for decades with its signature bite-sized burgers. They also saw such enormous success with the launch of their commemorative 1921 burgers that they just announced news of two additions to the lineup.

While White Castle is a household name in some parts of the country, those out west may not be aware of its fame. The fast food restaurant boasts an impressive history. They have been around for approximately 100 years. Most of their locations are on the east coast, in the midwest, and in Florida. The beloved chain is slowly working on expanding.

In a recent change to their menu, White Castle released their 1921 Slider. Its name comes from the year its original slider hit the menu. It has not been a mainstay on the menu over the decades but found a permanent home in April. The 100% all-beef patty is seasoned and seared, then topped with traditional burger favorites.

The 1921 Slider was a major hit amongst White Castle devotees. And it comes as no surprise. Sliders, nearly bite-size burgers, are popular with restaurant goers. The small bites are fun, often more affordable, and the right portion for lighter eaters and mid-day snackers. They are such a hit that several chain restaurants and fast food joints feature them on the menu.

Given the high demand, it makes sense that White Castle decided to tap into that market. And with the two new sliders on the menu, the company offers delicious alternatives for those looking to expand their burger horizons. One of the offerings is the 1921 Ghost Slider. And, no, it is not named after a perennial Halloween favorite. It actually gets its name from an amped-up version of pepper jack cheese. Instead of the standard pepper flakes added to your cheese slices, the 1921 Ghost Slider boasts bits of ghost pepper.

The second choice takes the heat down a notch for those slightly less adventurous. The 1921 BBQ Bacon Slider is sure to be a fan favorite. After all, you can never go wrong with bacon. It has most of the standard burger fixings, then completes the burger with bacon (of course), smoked cheddar cheese, and bbq sauce. White Castle released the news that they would be sourcing their bbq sauce from Sweet Baby Ray’s, a fan favorite.

Don’t get too excited, though. Details about the additional menu offerings hits the news well ahead of the actual menu launch. You won’t be able to purchase either of these tempting sliders until late November. White Castle wants to ensure you have plenty of time to work up an appetite before heading over, it appears. In the meantime, you can satisfy your mini-burger craving with their standard 1921 Slider.
