Let’s face it, walking into a Walmart isn’t exactly what one would call a premier shopping experience. It’s not uncommon to see much of the store in utter disarray with no signs of an employee in sight. Consequently, this kind of environment doesn’t produce happy customers. Much the opposite, actually. However, in a video that went viral, one Walmart worker recently took to TikTok to fire back at disgruntled customers who lash out at store employees.
In the video, a Walmart worker from the automotive department points the camera to empty registers outside the shop where he is working on vehicles. He then emphasizes that angry customers should not be banging on the door while he and his other shop mate are working on cars to tend to their checkout needs. He highlights that it is not his fault that Walmart does not make enough billions of dollars to adequately staff their registers. Watch the Walmart worker’s pointed video below.
The video has garnered close to 100,000 views. A flood of comments has also erupted in response to the Walmart worker’s posting. Many commenters reacted having realized that their anger toward employees may have been unjust. One flabbergasted individual said “This is where the problem lies! Why is there not someone there!? It’s sickening how they treat employees & people that give them business!” Another responded in kind. “They making those billions in part because they’re screwing you employees over by not hiring enough people,” remarked the individual.
Amid all of the lack of Walmart workers talk, some commenters honed in on the fact that there was even an automotive shop at a Walmart to begin with. A few of those individuals were stunned that people actually go to Walmart to fix or service their vehicles. One person remarked, “Why go to Walmart for car work anyway?” Another asserted that “Walmart is the last place I’d take my vehicle.” In response, someone pointed out that it could be because the company only charges $46.88 for a synthetic oil change.
As someone who has worked in a busy retail setting in the past and come up against some pretty difficult customers, it’s nice to see that this Walmart worker took a stand. Retail is not an easy job. It’s even less easy when you are stretched thin due to there not being enough workers. Compound those two circumstances with angry customers, and the situation becomes toxic for both parties. The Walmart workers video, in this case, puts the blame where it should be – on executives who are sitting in their cushy offices with more cash than they know what to do with.
The aforementioned Walmart worker was not the only one to take to social media to voice their grievances with both customers and the company in recent weeks. According to the Daily Dot, another TikTok user who goes by @cottoncandy1016 let Walmart shoppers know that they shouldn’t interrupt workers who are fulfilling online orders. “Don’t stop them while they picking, and don’t jump in front of them,” relayed the social media personality.
