Saucy fans of Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza were ecstatic when the company brought the popular item back to the menu on May 19th with the persuasion of the combined hundreds of letters and signatures. In fact, the excitement over the Taco Bell Mexican Pizza reached such high demand, that the fast-food taco chain says they are now running out and many customers are driving away disappointed. Not only have many Taco Bell locations run dry on the fan-favorite dish but the company has announced they have also postponed the much-anticipated debut of Mexican Pizza: The Musical.
According to Food and Wine, along with the vibe surrounding the return of the Taco Bell Mexican Pizza, fans were waiting eagerly yesterday for the Mexican Pizza Musical that was to be shown exclusively on TikTok. However, the star power of country music legend Dolly Parton and hip hop star Doja Cat, which were supposed to be combined together for the virtual performance, was nowhere to be seen. Taco Bell also originally stated that the TikTok show would feature music from Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear. These performers both won the Grammy for best musical theater album. TikTok star Victor Kunda, who helped bring the Taco Bell Mexican Pizza Musical to life with pleas from his own personal videos, was also slated to make a cameo. Alas, the Mexican Pizza musical (and all the star power backing it) failed to make its much-anticipated debut.
The fast-food taco chain made the decision to postpone the TikTok Mexican Pizza Musical premiere due to the shortage of menu items. Taco Bell tweeted, “We hope to reschedule to a later date, complete with the joy and celebratory spirit in which it was originally created.” This means having to again wait to see the musical collaboration of the duo, as well as for the Mexican Pizza to once again return to many Taco Bell locations. Thankfully, those master chefs in the Taco Bell test kitchen who worked hard to pull off some fancy footwork to streamline operations and acquire the necessary sourcing for the Mexican Pizza ingredients are now definitely back on the dance floor working some magic moves to once again meet consumer demands.
The Taco Bell fan favorite Mexican Pizza is made up of two crispy flour shells, layered with beans, pizza sauce, seasoned beef, tomatoes, and a melted three-cheese blend all for $4.49, if you can find it. There is also a vegetarian variety available if you prefer to part with the seasoned beef. Additionally, Taco Bell fans can opt to make it a combo with a Mexican Pizza, 2 Crunchy Tacos, and a Large Fountain Drink for $8.99 plus tax at participating locations that still are lucky enough to have the necessary ingredients.
A Taco Bell employee has stated not only are locations running out of the Mexican Pizza at many restaurants but will be once again discontinuing the item until later this year. However, the Taco Bell website has nothing to confirm this but states, “We’re working diligently with our restaurants and suppliers to get more back in the hands and stomachs of our biggest fans,” the communication continues on to read, “You can follow along on this page for the latest details and information, including when we anticipate the Mexican Pizza to return to its permanent residency on the Taco Bell menu.”
In the meantime, fans are encouraged to keep ordering the beloved Mexican Pizza. If consumers find that their location is currently out of stock, Taco Bell employees have been instructed to offer customers a free crunchy taco or bean burrito to make up for the missing menu item.
