Will There Be A Cable-Like Plan For Streaming Services?

Though it would seem like the next industry move, there are no current plans for a cable-like package of streaming services.

From 1927, when the first straight-line television system made its debut, to now, the television and all the ways we can watch it have drastically changed. Television users have many options when it comes to what and how exactly they watch. Users can choose between traditional cable packages, streaming services, and even bundle packages with a number of different streaming providers to choose from.

Many modern-day television watchers are choosing streaming services over a traditional cable package. With so many options currently available, the cost is adding up for users and leaves the question of whether or not all the services will be rolled into one and sold at a set price.

Essentially the answer is no, there will not be a cable-like plan for all the streaming services, at least not any time soon. While there are bundle deals available, usually between a few different streaming platforms, it is highly unlikely that all will be combined. This is something that has been and is currently being discussed by many major streaming service providers.

Streaming services began to take off with the start of Netflix in 2007. They began directly delivering content to TVs and smart devices throughout the world and created a convenience that users could not get enough of. The service was affordable and attractive.

Since the launch of the Netflix streaming service, many companies and networks have followed suit. There are now numerous different streaming service providers to choose from including, Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, and more. With such a variety of options, it can leave customers overwhelmed and with a sense of FOMO.

Many of the streaming service providers put out exclusive content. This content is just that, exclusive, and is only available to the subscribers for the particular provider. With so many people wanting to keep up with the latest, staying as up-to-date as possible, and falling victim to the latest hype surrounding a new show, users feel they have no choice but to subscribe to multiple streaming channels.

Additionally, the streaming services that are currently available are primarily owned by different companies. The bundle deals that are currently available between the different platforms are because they are within the same company. While it is highly unlikely that competitors will team up and offer a bundle, it is possible.

A complete bundle package among all streaming service providers would ultimately result in fewer subscription cancelations. Often, subscribers cancel after the free trial period is over or they have finished binge-watching a show. Having everything rolled into one would certainly eradicate the problem of continuous subscription cancellations after users have watched one particular show.

A cable-like package for all streaming services would eliminate competition in the marketplace. This would force the companies to join forces and work together. While this may not seem ideal for the service providers, it could potentially be a solution to some of the problems they face in their industry and leave customers satisfied as they would have it all, for one set price.
