Costs for plane tickets have been going through the roof as of late. Rampant inflation, a vast increase in the number of travelers wanting to fly, and severe staffing shortages at airports and airlines have created the perfect storm for airfare prices to skyrocket. And it’s only predicted to get worse as summer approaches its peak. Alas, there is some hope for those looking to save money on airfare and score some cheaper plane tickers in a seemingly impossible market.

To save money on airfare the key is to look for tickets through airlines that are still up and coming and not many people know about, revealed ABC 7 Eyewitness News. This is particularly true with international flights. Scott Keyes, of Scott’s Cheap Flights detailed that “Where the best value is, is actually on international flights, and especially flights to Europe.” Keyes came to this conclusion after examining data from his platform. He found that while domestic airfare costs were surging, flights to Europe were coming in substantially cheaper. Perhaps this is the year to finally book that trip to Madrid, Tuscany, or London that you’ve been putting off forever?

So why is one likely to save more money on airfare if they opt for an international flight? This might be due to lingering pandemic-related fears. Even though people are more willing than ever to travel again, they might not be ready to travel internationally just yet. Hence, leaving room for the travel disparity to emerge. Keyes also attributed the lower costs to the newer international airlines just starting to make a name for themselves. Norse, Azores Air, and PLAY Airlines have all been offering flights between the United States and Europe for very attractive rates. Their prices have also helped to drive the cost of flights from the United States to Europe lower across the board.

Still, Keyes reasoned that evident disparity is not likely to last too long, especially as society enters the thick of the summer travel season. Keyes advised that to really save money on airfare folks should book trips toward the end of the summer season. If possible, he mentioned that early fall is also a great time to travel for people looking for good deals. He specifically advised the months of September to October. This makes sense because the end of summer into early fall is when kids go back to school which means that fewer families will be traveling in general. However, for those dead set on traveling during peak season, the best way to try to save money on airfare costs is to look for flights on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday.

Overall, the expectation right now is that because of the state of the market and the other percolating mitigating circumstances, even lower prices will still be relatively high. Although, at this point, if one is looking to save money on airfare, any little bit helps. And, honestly, a trip to Europe might just be what the doctor ordered for many following a years-long global pandemic malaise.
