Mysterious circumstances have led to an oil executive’s untimely death. Chairman of the Russian company Lukoil, Ravil Maganov, accidentally fell out of the window after he’d been hospitalized. According to one source, Maganov fell out of the hospital’s sixth-floor window and died due to his injuries. Lukoil confirmed his death by a statement on Thursday, but many are suspicious about how this death occurred.

Lukoil stated that Maganov was in the hospital, prior to his fall, from a “severe illness.” The oil company described the chairman’s loyalty to the company and how much he’ll be missed in the workplace. Lukoil uplifted Maganov’s ingenuity and dedication to the oil and gas sector in a statement published on the Lukoil website.

Russia’s Kremlin and Lukoil have had contentious beliefs about the ongoing war. In March, the oil company made headlines by publically calling on Putin to stop the violence in Ukraine. Lukoil, Russia’s second-largest oil company, collected its influential board members and partners to side against Putin’s invasion. This did not sit well with the country’s government since Lukoil continued its dedication to pushing for a ceasefire between the neighboring nations.

Lukoil has significant standing in the world since it produces 2% of the world’s total crude oil. The company utilized its status and influential board by making a public condemnation of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, hoping to pressure other significant people and organizations to step up accordingly. Many suspect that their transparent and continual criticism of the Kremlin has made the oil company an enemy of the state.

A law enforcement source from Russia stated that Maganov most likely committed suicide. Investigative authorities are currently working out the details about this alleged suicide, hoping to gather more information about how this sick man jumped from a sixth-floor window. This follows a concerning trend of other influential business people perishing inexplicably since late January. As of now, it’s unknown if Lukoil’s stance had anything to do with Maganov’s death or if other influential people have been targeted due to their dissent against the government.

The Central Clinical Hospital is a commonly used facility for Russian elites in Moscow. This hospital is where former Russian leader Gorbachev passed away earlier last week and has had many visits from other influential people tied to the Kremlin. Lukoil’s chairman was being treated in this same facility before he unexpectedly died.

Maganov is not the only Lukoil higher-up to mysteriously perish in the last few months. In early May, Alexander Subbotin, a former manager at the company, was found collapsed inside his basement outside of the Moscow area. He was pronounced dead at the scene, with reports verified by numerous media sources. Subbotin was a highly influential man with excessive amounts of money, and many are drawing connections between this incident and Maganov’s inexplicable death.

Though there’s no direct evidence to correlate all of these purported accidents, Putin and the Russian government have a history of punishing its citizens who dissent. In time, more information might be revealed about Lukoil’s perished employees and why they’ve been disappearing.
