Popular Laundry Detergent Recalled For Containing Dangerous Bacteria
Unfortunately, it’s time to check your cabinets and laundry room for a specific detergent brand. There is news of a laundry detergent recall. And the reason for it is highly concerning.
The laundry detergent recall includes items that may contain bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This bacteria can enter the body through the eyes, inhalation, or a cut on the skin. It is an organism commonly found in water and soil.
However, the Consumer Product Safety Commission cautions that it is dangerous to those with weakened immune systems, which is bad news. “People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment.” Those with healthy immune systems appear to be safe from infection.
Three products fall under the laundry detergent recall. The first is Art of Green Free and Clear detergent. It sells in 100-ounce bottles.
Additionally, the recall includes two Zen Lavender Garden products. The recall includes the 33.8-ounce pouches and 100-ounce bottles. All impacted products have a label on the front stating “Art of Green,” according to USA Today.
Check the UPC and the date code on your detergent to determine whether or not it is part of the laundry detergent recall. The UPC is on the back, either near or under the barcode. And the date codes are stamped “on the cap of the 100-ounce bottles or back left corner of the 33.8-ounce pouches.”
So, what exactly are you looking for? That will vary by product. The impacted Art of Green Zen Lavender Garden 33.8-ounces pouches have the UPC 4315204874.
Its affected date codes are LOT Q 220324, LOT Q 220325, LOT Q 220326, and LOT Q 220328. But the Art of Green Zen Lavender Garden 100-ounce bottles have a different UPC. You should look for 4315204850, with the date code LOT M 220314.
And the Art of Green Free and Clear 100-ounce bottles involved in the laundry detergent recall have the UPC 4315204860. Additionally, there is only one date code to look for. It is LOT M 220315.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, roughly 14,550 units fall under the laundry detergent recall. The impacted detergent was sold between April 2022 and October 2022. The sale price ranged from $6 to $25.
Consumers may have purchased it online at Amazon.com or a local Lucky, Save Mart, or Food Maxx location. If you have one of the affected units, there are a few steps you need to take. The first is to stop using the product immediately.
Take a photo of the UPC and date code. Then screw the lid on tightly and dispose of the detergent in your household trash. Due to the nature of the recall, please do not empty the container before disposing of it.
Once you have taken these steps, reach out to the company. They will provide you with a full refund. But at least the good news is that there are no injuries or adverse reactions reported.
