After 105 years, the well-known retailer Huntington Wholesale Furniture is going out of business. Though many believed that the furniture enterprise would be leaving the wholesale business, unfortunately, the entire operation would be closing its doors. Since 1917, the company has been using a family business model to sustain its sales, but that hasn’t worked out over the last few years.
Charles Hanshaw, the general manager and president of Huntington Furniture, is the grandson of the initial owner and creator. The original business is still in the same building in which Hanshaw’s grandfather started the furniture store. Over the past several decades, Hanshaw felt the financial pressure of the family business, with fewer retailers wanting to sell their furniture in their larger stores.
Starting in the 1990s, Huntington Funiture started feeling the economic burden of a changing marketplace. Hanshaw stated that this transformation made it difficult for the enterprise to continue with its family business model that originated in the early 1900s. In an interview with the Herald-Dispatch back in August, Hanshaw stated that the company committed to changing the business model, but that hasn’t changed the inevitable demise of the corporation.
Ronnie Cox, the event coordinator for Huntington Furniture, discussed the company’s closing while also telling the public that the furniture enterprise would have unbeatable “going-out-of-business sales” for its loyal customers. He also encouraged people who haven’t been to the stores yet to come and see their retail offerings. To get rid of its excess inventory, the company will provide quality deals so that the public takes the furniture and home decor off its hands.
Cox said there would be an extensive assortment of living room, bedroom, and dining room decor for those wanting to stop by the Huntington Furniture warehouse. There will be plenty of various-sized tables to choose from, as well as sofas, recliners, and beds. Huntington Furniture stocks paintings, wall decor, accessories, lamps, and pillows if you need some smaller, ornamental furnishings.
For the first time in the company’s history, Hungtington Furniture will open its warehouse showroom to the general public. 40% will be discounted from all accessories in the gallery, including items already on sale. If you sign up through their website, you can get an additional $100 off any $1,000 purchase on any combination of items during checkout.
Though Huntington Furniture might not be a recognizable name nationwide, its warehouse will have pieces from notable brands that buyers will appreciate. The out-of-business sale will include Howard Miller, Lane, Liberty, Lifestyles, Smith Brothers, and many more furniture. Doors will open at 9 am Monday through Friday next week, with reduced hours over the weekend from 10 am to 4 pm.
The Huntington Furniture warehouse is located in Huntington, West Virginia. The initial store has been situated on 8th avenue since the beginning of the 21st century, making it a historical relic for the city of 45,000. Though the furniture enterprise is closing for good, consumers who’ve had their homes furnished by the brand can celebrate the longstanding business by going to their warehouse and relieving them of their stock.
