Why Parents Are Choosing To Cut One Popular Toy In Half
By Jennifer Hollohan | Updated
When parents find a toy that their little ones will happily play with for hours, they work hard to ensure nothing happens to it. Unfortunately, there are some things we cannot control. One of those is when news of a popular toy recall crosses our path, especially when our kiddos happen to love that toy.
That is a reality many parents face today, thanks to the latest popular toy recall. At least the blow comes before Christmas. So parents have time to try and find an acceptable replacement.
HABA hopes you turn to them for that replacement despite the new recall of its popular Discovery Cubes Animal Hide and Seek toy. HABA USA issued the recall in conjunction with the Consumer Product Safety Commission. It went into effect on December 1.
The Discovery Cubes Animal Hide and Seek toy is shaped like a house. Its fabric has multiple colors to attract the attention of little eyes. And it comes complete with three stuffed animals – a mouse, fox, and hedgehog.
There are various pockets and rings on the toy to entertain kids. And each piece has a polyester filling. It is concern over the filling that prompted the popular toy recall.
The toy’s house has a seam that can open, exposing the filling. When it opens, children would have access to the filling. And that results in a significant risk of ingestion and choking hazards.
So far, there are no reports of injury, which is fantastic news. However, according to Fox8 News, “HABA has heard from one consumer who noticed an open seam on the toy’s house.” The company issued the recall as soon as it learned of the hazard, hoping to prevent any injury.
According to HABA, approximately 800 units were sold nationwide. Parents may have purchased them at a local specialty store or online. Online retailers that carry the toy include Walmart.com, Amazon.com, and Habausa.com.
The affected units involved in the popular toy recall were sold between “August 2022 through October 2022.” And the price point at the time was $30. HABA has provided explicit recall instructions to parents.
First, gently but immediately remove the toy from your child. Check the model number if you have any questions or doubts. It is 306684 and is on the packaging as well as on a label sewn on the inside of the house.
Next, cut the toy in half with a pair of scissors. Take a photo of the destroyed house since you need to submit that to HABA. Then, discard the toy in your trash and ensure all pieces are out of your child’s reach.
Email HABA at [email protected] or call them at 888-430-0060, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. They will need your name, address, and photo of the destroyed toy. The company is offering parents a refund preference.
Parents can opt for a direct refund or an e-gift card to HABA’s online shop. While the popular toy recall may hit some homes hard, the company wants parents to know they issued it out of an abundance of caution. The safety of their youngest customers is a top priority.
