The Best Ways To Stop Spam Calls
iPhone users must download an app like TrueCaller to block spam calls, while Android users go to phone settings and activate a built-in feature.
If you have a cell phone, you are getting spam calls. And you’re probably getting them on a daily basis. In fact, in 2021, there were 50 billion robocalls in the U.S. So, it’s no wonder you’re getting up to five or more a day. But there are ways for you to stop them. At least momentarily. And these methods, although not foolproof, will keep you from putting your phone in a pot and striking it with a spoon. You know, the classic way to annoy robo-callers and spammers.
According to Indiana Express, there is a feature on smartphones that can help filter these types of calls. However, there is no guarantee they will stop them altogether. One thing about these spam calls is that their callers are continually adapting to new tech and new numbers.
You can get spam calls, and you can also get spam texts, and spam emails. Because our communication methods have shifted to be more text-based than email-based, scammers found a way to text you and demand you give them money, or you’re locked out of your Amazon account , or you need to call someone and get gift cards, or you need to click a link because you’re in trouble with the IRS. Yes, these are all real scams that folks regrettably fall for.
You can either choose to download a blocker to stop your spam calls and robo calls, or you can go into your phone’s settings and do a small trick that may curb them at least for a small percentage of the time. In order to do this, however, it will be helpful and even necessary to download an app like Truecaller or Hiya.
Spam Call Blocking on an iPhone:
You will have to install an app like Truecaller. After you install and configure it, go to Settings > Phone > Call blocking and identification, and toggle all four options. Open the Truecaller app and enable spam detection. This won’t block your spam calls automatically. But the Truecaller app will compare the phone number with a spam database. While this won’t automatically block the calls, the Truecaller app will compare the phone number with the database if it is fraudulent.
Spam Call Blocking on Android
Although iPhone users sometimes turn their noses at Android or any other cell phone that isn’t an iPhone, in this case, Android reigns supreme. Spam calls can be blocked with something built into Android already. You don’t have to download an app at all! You go to the Google dialer, open the app, click on the three dots in the top right corner, go to Settings > Caller ID > Spam, and enable filter spam calls. This will then block suspected scam calls.
The Google dialer is an app you can download for Google Voice. So, you only kinda have to download an app to stop spam calls.
Samsung user? No worries! You can still block spam calls. Open up the Samsung dialer and go to Settings and enable block spam and spam calls. Samsung prompts you to choose one of the two options. Users can choose to block the high-risk scam call, or they can block all false calls in the menu.
Because you are probably tired of getting spam calls and texts that are telling you something about your AT&T bill (even if you don’t have AT&T), you’ll probably just block all the calls.
