Edtech

EdTech, or educational technology, is a form of education that relies on communication platforms such a Canvas, Moodle, and Blackboard to deliver curriculum, enhance engagement, and promote differentiation when it comes to students’ learning. With EdTech boosting engagement levels, many companies are utilizing it to improve retention and efficiency. These benefits of EdTech are fundamentally changing education.

Many countries rely on traditional forms of education due to limited resources, however with EdTech all that is needed is a device that can access the programs needed. EdTech can be used to deliver quality education not just nationwide, but worldwide. The EdTech Hub explains how improving the educational outcomes is hindered by the lack of availability and use of data for effective decision-making.

The EdTech Hub continues to explain how the influx of technology in low and middle-income countries increases the availability for educational data and that it can be used to improve aspects of education programmes and policy at the district, regional, national and international levels. Once this data is analyzed, we can begin to understand the needs of learners in different countries and craft technological solutions that can be delivered through Edtech.

EdTech also has the potential to solve the individualized learning crisis that educators face everyday in the classroom. This crisis occurs when teachers have high enrollment numbers and struggle to personalize the lesson and materials for each student’s needs with only so little time. Educators are able to utilize EdTech to offer speech to text, text to speech, modified assignments, due dates, etc.

Builtin describes how the important role Edtech has played by making it easier for teachers to create individualized lesson plans and learning experiences that promote inclusivity and learning capabilities for all students. In education, the way students learn and interact with classmates and teachers and their excitement for subjects are not the same for all. Builtin continues that everyone learns at their own pace and style. EdTech offers an accessible, time saving, and efficient method.

Furthermore, Dante Caloia of QueensJournal asserts that the attention spans of children are diminishing, making it increasingly difficult to retain interest. This is also where EdTech can come in! While this technology is new, it seeks to overcome many challenges faced by students in the modern day.

The implementation of EdTech tools are transforming classrooms and learning experiences. For instance, EdTech robots, digital classrooms and gamified classroom activities encourage engagement through fun forms of learning, as stated by Builtin. Additional benefits, according to Builtin, are:

  • Increased Collaboration

Cloud-based apps allow students to digitally upload their homework and converse all through its interface!

  • Access to Learning

Students have full access to their digital classroom anywhere with Wi-Fi!

  • Non-Traditional Classroom

Video lectures and learning apps allow students to watch lessons at home, encouraging class time to be utilized for collaborative efforts.

  • Personalized Learning Experience

With video content and access to their digital classroom, students can learn at their own pace. The ability to pause and rewind lectures can aid students in learning or retaining difficult concepts.

EdTech helps address many of the current issues that schools face today, the technology can help foster self-learning, creativity and collaboration among students. It also has the potential to provide quality education worldwide. This new technology is a game changer for education.
