The One Smartphone That Can Charge Its Battery In Under Two Minutes
The RealMe GT Neo5 can charge to 20% battery in 80 seconds.
Having a smartphone with a battery that lasts all day is vital. However, the ability to charge it in the shortest time possible is even more important, especially if there’s a time constraint. While most devices feature fast-charging options, the RealMe GT Neo5 is the most impressive. It features a 4,600mAh dual-cell battery with a 240W charging speed.
That means the device can go from zero to 20% in just 80 seconds. Four minutes is all the Realme GT Neo5 needs to reach 50%. And the smartphone will be at 100% after just 9.5 minutes, according to Engadget. This is super impressive, considering that Samsung‘s new Galaxy S23 Ultra only offers a maximum charging speed of 45W.
The RealMe GT Neo5’s 240W Super VOOC rapid charging feature is enabled by a compact dual-GaN power adapter. This modest transformer is paired with a high-current USB-C cable to deliver 20V/12A of power. This is converted to 10V/24A by three 100W power management chips before it reaches the battery. The adapter can also be sued with a USB-PD at up to 65W.
RealMe also promises that after 1,600 charging cycles or four years of usage, the battery health of the GT Neo5 wouldn’t drop below 80%. But the charging speed isn’t the only thing the device has to offer. According to XDA Developers, the handset features a 6.7-inch 144Hz AMOLED display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.
The RealMe GT Neo5 also boasts 1TB of internal storage that is paired with 16GB RAM. The camera setup is also very impressive, with a 50MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide, and 2MP macro. It also features customizable RGB lighting. The base price for the super fast charging mobile phone starts at 3,199 CNY (Chinese Yuan). That figure translates to just $470.
The Realme GT Neo5 is already available in China with two different models. The base model features 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. The device with TB storage will cost 3,499 CNY or $520. Interestingly, there’s also a 5,000mAh variant with 150W charging. The cost of that device ranges from 2,499 CNY to 2,899 CNY, depending on the amount of storage you choose.
While the device is only available in China at present, RealMe told Engadget that the GT Neo5 will be headed to international markets very soon. The only difference is that the 240W Super VOOC feature will be introduced globally via the company’s upcoming flagship phone, the Realme GT3. That device is slated for release later this month.
Much like the RealMe GT Neo5, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 12 Explorer is another phone with a fast-charging battery. According to Digital Trends, it features 210W charging, making it the second fastest to date. The rest of the hardware is pretty impressive too. The device is powered by the octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset based on a 6nm manufacturing process.
It is paired with 12GB RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The device also boasts a 200MP triple camera system with a 16MP camera for selfies. The Redmi Note 12 Explorer’s 4,300 mAh battery can be charged to 66% in five minutes. While it isn’t as fast as the RealMe GT Neo5, it’s still very cool.
