If you’re a member of the cult of Mac or a diehard Apple fanboy (or girl or person), you will have to update your calendars. The anticipated Apple VR headset which was rumored to have helped with a possible recession and also put bad PR of worker protests in China to bed (for a bit), is going to be a bit delayed.

According to Cult of Mac, the Apple VR headset will likely debut in the second half of 2023. Pushing the original launch date of “sometime in Q2.” to much later in the year. This big change will affect Apple’s shipment numbers for the year. And moreover, it could bring fan disappointment and cool the flames of excitement for buyers who are hot to buy.

The Apple VR headsets were going to begin mass production in either January, February, or March of 2023, but because of a reported software problem, production will begin much later. Recent reports of unrest in Chinese plants are rumored to be the real root of the problem. But, for now, that is unknown. It could even be caused by privacy rumors

It is also unknown what Apple’s VR headset will look like mainly. There have been reports and rumors of “Apple Glasses.” So, if we’re all picturing the VR that Meta gave us a couple of years ago, it may be different that that. Plus, Apple is now under pressure to differentiate itself as Meta was first. And, especially in tech, the first is often the most memorable.

Although modern tech has taken virtual reality to new heights, the concept of VR is not new. In 1838, the concept of depth perception became understood and the stereoscope was invented giving viewers a very early view of what it feels like to be immersed in virtual reality.

From the 1800s through the 1980s, VR experienced ups and downs, and a definite fall. At some point, pre-Meta VR, and pre-Apple VR headset,  the concept all but lost credibility and for some time, our collective backs were turned.

While this was happening in the public sector, the US government and NASA were continually working on perfecting the concept so they could work in a place while not being in the actual place. Very helpful for training in simulated war or even in outer space. The Apple VR headset was anticipated to be head and shoulders above Meta.

Because Meta (then Facebook) struck fast and struck hard with its Oculus Quest, other software companies have fallen behind on the VR bandwagon. The way our technology evolves, we should be able to visit friends in a virtual club. Oh, wait….

So, we are moving forward with the VR trend and the Apple VR headset is still experiencing issues. As we all try to grapple with the concept of VR and how it can be helpful, a new job of a Virtual Reality Coach has popped up.

Coaches will soon be needed to help the common layperson understand how to work VR and even how companies can take VR further. If this is something that sparks an interest, keep an eye open on the Apple VR headset and its launch dates. It’s sure to signal when VR will become even more mainstream than it is.
