Elon Musk Continuing To Fire Tons More Twitter Employees
Elon Musk is still on a layoff spree, and an entire team of engineers were the latest victims when he let them go the day before Thanksgiving.
The Twitter drama continues. Twitter layoffs had already taken place, with employees being logged out of company computers without notice. After saying that now more Twitter layoffs would take place, Twitter owner, Elon Musk, fired dozens of employees the day before Thanksgiving.
A team of Twitter engineers and other Twitter employees are the latest victims of Twitter layoffs. The layoffs came on Wednesday night and were a total surprise. Elon Musk has previously said that the layoffs were over with and no more would be taking place.
That turned out to be a complete lie and left an even greater impact of shock as the Twitter layoffs were announced mere hours before people would gather with family to celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. Similar to the last Twitter layoffs, employees were given practically no notice whatsoever and found out only after attempting to log in to company computers. An email was sent to the employees that notified them of their termination.
The employees affected by this round of Twitter layoff were given one month of severance. The reason stated for the firing of the employees is said to be based on performance reasons. This could possibly have to do with a new policy in place at Twitter regarding communication of what work has been done.
Elon Musk has put a new Twitter policy in place that requires staff who work with codes or technical projects to make weekly reports directly to him about what they have been working on. In addition, engineers and other staff members were also to report things they hoped to complete, specific coding that they have written and worked on. The Twitter layoff may have been caused because of a lack of report, which would have been a violation of the new Twitter policy.
In the first round of Twitter layoffs, Elon Musk sparked a huge debate. He clearly did not give employees ample notice, and the initial round of Twitter layoffs caused previous employees to file a lawsuit against Twitter and the new owner. Other moves made by Elon Mush, who bought Twitter for $44 billion, have been causing huge debate and controversy.
In addition to mass Twitter layoffs, Elon Musk has launched a subscription service for Twitter, which has not been going well at all. The company launched the Twitter Blue subscription service in an attempt to increase revenue. The service has brought forth impersonators and, to be frank, been a train wreck.
Twitter Blue and a slew of Twitter layoffs all probably circle back to one problem that seems to be plaguing Twitter, the need for more money. Apparently, Twitter hasn’t turned a profit in several years, and Elon Musk seemingly doesn’t want to keep employees who he thinks aren’t properly doing their job. While no employer should have to keep paying someone who isn’t doing their job, handling things with class and dignity goes a long way.
Elon Musk must not care about the consequences for the people involved in the Twitter layoffs and be only focused on turning a profit. As this Twitter takeover continues, we can all expect more drama to unfold. For those still working at Twitter, it might be best to dust off the old resume and begin looking for work elsewhere because no one is safe from the firing wrath of Elon Musk.
